Nashville-based AmMed Direct is a Medicare-approved providedr of diabetestesting supplies. The companh recently sent Chief Operatinv OfficerTom Milam, to Washington D.C. to expresse concerns to legislators aboutthe Medicare's new competitivre bidding program for durable medica l equipment, a release The program is designefd to cut Medicare costs by reducin the number of Medicare suppliers and fee schedulee reimbursement amounts. It will regulats many categories of medical equipmenyincluding oxygen, wheelchairs and walkers.
Milam, who traveled to Washingtob withLorraine Farrar, director of AmMed's Better Care Program, says the prograj will harm care, put several medical equipment companie s out of business and open the door to "unscrupulous biddersw with ulterior motives." While there are planse to expand the program to another 70 marketz in 33 states nationwide in 2009, in its current form it'ws facing some opposition in both A letter asking for a one-yeaer delay of the bidding signed by 132 House memberws has been released and the Senat is reportedly working on a similar letter.
